What was the best packaging of 2009? Did your headphones come in a sweet case? See a bottle of tea in another country that stood out on the shelf?
I’m a little overwhelmed by packaging and marketing at the moment. In fact, for the past few weeks a refrain from Say Anything has been ringing insistently through my brain:
“I don’t want to sell anything, buy anything, or process anything… I don’t want to sell anything bought or processed, or buy anything sold or processed, or process anything sold, bought, or processed, or repair anything sold, bought, or processed.” Lloyd Dobler / John Cusack
Thank you, Cameron Crowe.
I’m not actually that extreme. Or at least not usually. But with the job I currently have, in the city in which I live, in this culture, at this time of year, things can get pretty intense.
So when I think of the packaging that has really blown me away this year, the packaging that makes me stop in wonder, the packaging I don’t want to destroy… I LOOK UP.
The sky. The clouds. The atmosphere. The ozone. The heavens.
Whatever you want to call it, it wraps and protects this crazy world. And when not being interfered with, it does a pretty good job of it.
When was the last time you really looked at it? LOOK UP.

/ December 16, 2009nize save. was thinking about packaging in your particular locale. i mean, really, there’s packaging then there’s packaging, and you are constantly barraged with what’s behind door #2. nice save, though. nice reframe. nice detour.
