Going Green

When I was a child, I wore thick glasses. I couldn’t see the big “E” on the eye chart, much less the alarm clock or people’s faces from more than a few feet away. Perhaps that is why I take such pleasure in the visual world. To clarify, I appreciate all five of my sense – and even my sixth when it’s working – but sight is the sense I value most, and the beauty I see around me is simply astounding. Specifically, the beauty of the natural world. Perhaps it is cliche, but nature’s got a damn good sense of color and design. We humans are constantly trying to capture that sense and bottle it. I am awed by the tenacity of our pursuit. And, on occasion, even grateful for it.

After all, my world would be a lot less colorful if someone hadn’t decided to reproduce Forest Green.

Did I mention that I am humbled by the divine power of pedicures, too? And I don’t even have a foot fetish.

What is your favorite sense? And why?

  1. I actually also have a thing for sight. I first got glasses in 4th grade, and I remember the car ride back home being amazed that everything was in such clear, sharp focus. I’d had no idea what I’d been missing.

  2. Love love LOVE the polish.

  3. my hubs and i have talked about what sense it would be most difficult to live without. i can’t imagine life without sight and he can’t imagine life without sound…

i’ve read that life without the sense of taste is really terrible but not that widely publicized. i’m happy each day for all of my senses. :)

I love green nail polish, too. Every spring-summer I paint my toes the lovliest shades of green and then add flowers to them. Afterall, the summer is when everything’s in bloom and I love to see the gardens and smell those wonderful scents that only appear during daylight savings. And what better way to see a garden every day then to look at my toes.

  6. Liebchen: It’s amazing, isn’t it? Too bad that sharpness dulls over time, even with the corrective lens or surgery. Ah, age…

Lem: Thanks, chica! Gotta say, I’m kinda obsessed now.

Nat: I’ve never thought about losing the sense of taste. That would definitely suck, though I’ve heard that a lot of what we associate with taste is actually attributable to scent/smell. But then again, there’s a reason I’m not a scientist.

Kat: It is very important to appreciate the adornment of one’s toes.

    Jenn: I couldn’t agree more.
