Every morning – or, more accurately, most mornings, I make strong decaf coffee, using my IKEA espresso maker, pour the rich, dark liquid into a Winnie-the-Pooh mug, add heated soy milk, and then sit by my kitchen window to enjoy my brew. I listen to the birds. I watch my cat try to will them to come through the screen. I am amused by nature. All told, the routine probably takes 15 minutes – a simple, easy pleasure. The tranquility it affords me, however, is precious.
What routines bring you tranquility?

/ July 5, 2009My early morning walk/run through the neighbourhood. Past the big ouses and the green parks, up and down the tree and garden-heavy side streets, down the road with the best view of downtown Vancouver and the freighters in False Creek.
Just before falling asleep, reading one or two pages of a book I actually enjoy with just my headlamp for light!

/ July 6, 2009I wake up and try not to destroy my surroundings. Then, fight traffic to go to a job I very my dislike. While there I try to main-line the strongest coffee I can find to distract me from the hated of myself at that very moment.
I dredge through the day, dreaming of some very crazy “accidents” for those loud co-workers. At the end, I fight traffic to come home. Then the magic happens. I flip on ESPN’s PTI and all of a sudden, I am human again.
I have a bit of dinner and stare out at the lake as the sun is setting. Let’s just say I am not a day person. Luv ya!

/ July 29, 2009San: That walk/run sounds utterly delightful. Thanks for the inspiration.
JP: Luv ya too babe! And thanks for making me laugh. ALL THE TIME.
LiLu: I totally get that. And I’m clearly in need of a walk like that too.
