A few years ago, while traveling through Indonesia, I was fortunate enough to stay for a stint with a distant cousin. His house was filled with bouquets of freshly cut orchids. Those bouquets were gathered and tended to by a house staff provided to him by the MNC for which he worked. I do not have a house staff. I am not a flora connoisseur. I do, however, make a point of always having fresh cut flowers in my house. They unfailingly bring me pleasure.
Luckily, I live in Southern California, where flowers are relatively cheap and abundant. Not everyone is so fortunate, however, so I’ve decided to share with you my bouquet choice each week. Perhaps you’ll be inspired to scrounge up some spare change, or head for the fields, and pick up a Pleasure Bouquet of your own.

/ February 8, 2009I love fresh flowers and for years always made a point to have them in my home (wherever that was). You’re so right, it is such an easy, constant pick-me up. Just look at a bunch of beautiful flowers and how could you not feel better about the day?! Thanks for the reminder.

/ February 10, 2009That is a selling point for SoCal, the growing season is long. Ours is short, but we do have some lovely flowers that grow here. The tulips and cherry trees are just around the corner.

/ February 13, 2009Kat: I hope you have gotten those tulips now. Everything is brighter, even in the rain.
Calimama: You are very welcome. I hope your house is now filled with fresh flowers. They’ll compliment your new chairs.
Egan: I will concede that there are selling points to pretty much everywhere, at least on the coasts. Our cherry trees are already in full bloom, and are magnificent. However, you do have all those amazing trees. Every time I go north, I turn into a bark-hugger.
