I want to do my part to save the environment, but I must confess that I am not ambitious or conscientious enough to embrace the idea of having a box of empty cans loitering at my front door or washing every wine bottle and peanut butter jar for reuse. Recycling is rather a messy business. Necessary? Yes. Noble? You bet. But aesthetically pleasurable? Um, no – or at least not until now. Three cheers for Gianluca Soldi, then, for creating this drool-worthy recycling bin, Ovetto, which conveniently means egg in Italian. Have I mentioned how much I love the Italians? I want. The Ovetto, that is. Well, and an Italian as well. Or George Clooney and his house on Lake Como will do.
I am convinced that seeing this egg-shaped design delight, which is made of recycled polypropylene, has three compartments and comes with color decals so you can dress it up as you wish, would induce me to actually exert myself in my efforts to recycle. For the sheer pleasure of it.
So, what do you think? Would having this in your kitchen inspire you to recycle more? Do you already recycle everything you touch? And what else do you do to save the planet?

/ March 21, 2009Does absolutely nothing for me. Right now, I just put all my recyclables in a bag and then take it out to the bin once a week. I’m a simple kinda gal.

Kat: I love that design is such a subjective thing. That’s one of the many reasons I find it so exciting, invigorating, and pleasurable! I keep trying to be a simple kinda gal. And then I look at my closet full of shoes.
Gold stars to both of your for all your recycling efforts!
